Sunrise has always been an important place in my heart. I was brought to this amazing organization back in 2015 when my brother, Alex kept convincing me to work as a counselor at this camp. I finally joined him that summer and have worked at the camp for nine years.
From the beginning, I fell in love with Sunrise. Sunrise is filled with love, kindness, and support from every corner. The children who attend Sunrise Day Camp are going through tough times, whether they are going through the battle of cancer or watching their sibling fight this battle. At Sunrise, these children are reminded of the joys of being a child. They are able to play sports like soccer, gaga, and basketball. They are able to swim everyday in the pool with their friends, splashing around and playing games. Whether they want to act in Drama, run on the playground, or paint in Art, Sunrise is their place to be themselves.
My brother, Alex, came back every year for 10 years for one purpose and one purpose only. The kids. He loved Sunrise because it is a truly magical place. Our motto always has been FTK - For the Kids and that has not changed since my time started at Sunrise in 2015 and when Alex started in 2009.
I walk this year for my kids, but I also walk for my brother, Alex. I walk in his memory because I know that his dedication and love for this camp was limitless. He always was there for his kids, whether it was playing on the courts at volleyball, swimming in the pool, or dancing around in a tutu on stage. He always made sure he was there for his kids.
